We know that for a lot of people summer really just means sandal season, which brings pedicure professionals right back to the top of the most popular self-care specialists for many of our clients.
During each summer season, pedicure trends emerge, manifesting as recurring requests by our clients as influenced by the collective mood of the year, the biggest celebrities and their styling choices, and iconic fashion publications dictating what’s “in” and what has passed (for now) in the nail scene.
This summer season, we’re looking to the likes of Pantone, Vogue, and Bustle to help define the pedicures of the moment for 2023 – reflecting the zeitgeist to help predict what we’re likely to see (or continue to see) cropping up in our chairs.
Here’s our Summer 2023 Pedicure Nail Trends watch list:

1.
Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year: Viva Magenta
Reflecting the dualistic nature of 2023, Pantone’s Color of the Year is both warm and cool-toned, with an unapologetic boldness that seems to celebrate color itself. Pantone describes the color as “rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”

2.
Classic Red
Following suit of the bright and bold of Pantone’s pick, Classic Red is both vibrant and timeless – a year-round favorite that will continue to trend in the summer months (and IMO, the perfect shade for a mani/pedi matching set). It gives us Pamela Anderson Baywatch nostalgia, who, like the classic red, seems to grow more relevant and iconic with each year that goes by.

Hailey Bieber Yellow & Citrus
What colors are more summery than citrus yellows and oranges? We’ll wait. Inspired by Hailey Bieber's sunshine yellow nails, we’re already seeing an uptick in requests for yummy fruit bowl shades, either in full-coverage applications or as beautiful ombres or accents.

4.
Neons
Also having their moment are screaming neons, with people swapping their winter nudes and browns for sour apple greens, Barbie pinks, bold blues, and more. Like all things re-emerging from Y2K, these neons are regaining traction (alongside metallics and chromes), as French tips, rainbow sets, patterns, and full coverage styles.

5.
Pastels
Sweet mint green, forget-me-not blue, lilac purple, rose petal pink…you get the idea. Pastels are a 2023 summer pedicure favorite, both complementing a summer tan and adding a touch of fun to any mani/pedi set. These colors are cool and crisp on their own, or act as the perfect complementary color to neon statement nails, bright patterned accents, or playful topcoats.

Healthy Glow
Following the “healthy hair is beautiful hair” trend of the past few years, healthy nails are in – especially in the summer months. With trends like “lipgloss” and “glazed donut” nails, we’re seeing an uptick in pedicures that enhance the natural look of the nail, elevating natural hues with a stunning dewy finish. In the same vein is the year-round favorite and classic French Tip – following the “your nails, but better” ethos that oozes vitality, health, and beauty.

Statement Nails
As a more pedicure-friendly alternative to the nail art that is booming in manicure sets, statement nails (especially on the big toes) are already trending this summer. They are a great way to pump up the fun on classic pedicures, injecting personality into every design (and allowing for a little artist flex for pedicure specialists). We’re seeing small, simple embellishments like florals, jewels, or glitter accents really making a splash on 2023 summer nail sets.
Overall, this summer is a season of expression, personality, experimentation, and playfulness. We can’t wait to see the stunning pedicures it – and you – inspires.
